Serial Pattern Wizard

The Serial Pattern policy is used to define common enumeration, chronology, and publication patterns that will be used for many serials.

From the List Policies window, you can create, display, modify, copy, or remove the Pattern policies. Click Close to exit the wizard.

Attributes

The Serial Pattern policy contains the following attributes.

Name
Description
Frequency Code
Subdivision
In Use
Name Label
Alphabetic
Numeric
Continuous
Limit
Chronology Type
Custom Chronology
Publication Cycle
Days to Claim
Days to Subsequent Claim
Number of Issues

Name

This attribute uniquely identifies each Pattern policy. This name is ten characters or less, and may not include spaces or punctuation, except for dash (-), underscore (_), and dollar sign ($). Additionally, the pipe character (|) may not be used.

Description

This attribute provides more information about the policy and its use by the library. The description may be up to 60 characters in length. Although the Description attribute may contain spaces and punctuation, the pipe character (|) cannot be used.

Frequency Code

This attribute contains a Frequency policy. Select a frequency from the list. The Frequency Policy helper (Frequency Wizard) is available for you to create a new frequency or modify an existing one, if needed.

Subdivision

This section allows you to define information about the six subdivisions or enumeration levels in a control record. Some, all, or none of the six subdivisions can be used to establish the checkin pattern predicting the expected issues of the serial.

In Use

This attribute indicates whether a particular subdivision level should be used when setting up the enumeration check in pattern for the serial. Selecting an In Use check box includes the subdivision in the numeration calculation for the serial issues. Subdivisions must be used in order, beginning with the first subdivision in the list.

Note: Until the first In Use check box is selected, no other subdivisions can be selected.

Name Label

This attribute contains the Name Label policy that provides the caption of a selected enumeration pattern. Select a label from the list. The Name Label Policy helper (Name Label Wizard) is available for you to create a new label or modify an existing one, if needed.

Alphabetic

This attribute specifies whether or not the enumeration level uses an alphabetic character pattern.

Numeric

This attribute specifies whether or not the enumeration level uses a numeric character pattern.

Note Level one of the enumeration subdivisions is always a numeric value. Subsequent enumeration levels may be enabled for either alphabetic or numeric patterns.

Continuous

This attribute specifies whether the numbering pattern for Subdivisions 2 through 6 should increment continuously. The first subdivision is always continuous.

Limit

This attribute sets a limit that determines when a subdivision’s numbering pattern should start over, causing the enumeration in the subdivisions above it to be incremented by one.

Chronology Type

This attribute contains a Chronology Type policy. Select a chronology type from the list. The Chronology Type Policy helper (Chronology Type Wizard) is available for you to create a new chronology type or modify an existing one, if needed.

Custom Chronology

This attribute contains a list of “custom” textual names, instead of a list of Chronology policies. This attribute is only used if the Chronology Type policy’s Special Processing attribute is set to Text.

Publication Cycle

This attribute defines the publication cycle for selected serials based on which Serial Pattern policy they reference. Use the Publication Cycle gadget to define a cycle.

Days to Claim

This attribute contains the number of days SirsiDynix Symphony should wait before claiming any unreceived issues. Set this attribute to 0 if you don’t want SirsiDynix Symphony to ever claim missing issues. SirsiDynix Symphony begins counting days after the predicted issue receipt date.

Days to Subsequent Claim

This attribute contains the number of days SirsiDynix Symphony should wait before sending a follow-up notification for additional claims against missing items.

Number of Issues

This attribute contains the number of issues received over the course of the publication cycle.
