FAQs: Simple Sets and Boxed Sets

Simple Sets

A Simple Set is typically a multi-volume set of items with the same title, such as a set of encyclopedias.

You can use the Manage Sets Wizard to display, create, modify, and remove simple sets. Items are tied to a Set ID (a unique ID that accommodates alphanumeric characters). The exchange records associated with the items will display which part number the item is in the set.
The Exchange Items wizard automatically recognizes when an item in a set has been scanned and asks the user if the set should be exchanged only if all of the items in the set are scanned. You can answer No with an operator override.

When Circulation Sets is configured, an item can be a member of only one set. In Collection Exchange, an item can belong to both a simple set (“parental” in Circulation Sets) and a boxed set. This is no longer the case once Circulation Sets is configured.

Boxed Sets

A Boxed Set is a collection of items that are packaged together and exchanged as a single unit, but which otherwise have no relationship. An example would be a collection of children’s books by different authors. A barcode or ID represents the set and is entered into the Exchange Items Wizard wizard to exchange all of the items.

You can use the Manage Sets Wizard to create a Boxed Set and associate the items with a Set ID (a unique ID that accommodates alphanumeric characters). Many items can be added to a Boxed Set.
The Exchange Items Wizard has a special tab to exchange a Boxed Set. All of the items in the boxed set will be exchanged to the specified destination library. When the box goes in-transit to the destination library, it is easily received by the Receive Items Intransit wizard by scanning the Set ID.

When Circulation Sets is configured, an item can be a member of only one set. In Collection Exchange, an item can belong to both a simple set (“parental” in Circulation Sets) and a boxed set. This is no longer the case once Circulation Sets is configured.
