Routing Tab: Serial Control

The Routing tab displays brief routing information for issues associated with this serial control. Each line listed per copy represents a Routing record. If there are no routings attached to this record, the following message appears.

Routings: None

A list of individual routing records for each copy and table of content routings appears in a table on the Routing tab. The following field information for each issue or table of contents is provided.

Additionally, you may create new routings using the Create a Routing Tool.

In order for a user’s name to appear on a routing list, the Routing Allowed check box must be selected on the Basic tab of the user record.

When a routing Library is specified, at least one of the users on the routing list must contain the same library as the copy’s distribution library for the routing list to display for printing at the workstation when the issue is received. Routing slips may be printed by routing library using the Serial Control Routing Slips report.

From the Routing tab when modifying a serial control, you may create, modify, duplicate, transfer, or remove a routing record for a user for a copy of the issue or the table of contents. For additional information, see FAQs: Creating and Modifying Routings.

The following fields are defined for the Routing tab for serial control.

Copy

This field serves as a heading for each copy’s routing list in the Routing tab. If any table of content routings are created, they are displayed first, with remaining copies displaying in numeric order.

Library

Serial control records (controls, vendors, claims) are assigned to a library. Which libraries may display your library’s serial control records is governed by the Serial Display Libraries attribute of the Library policy. Which libraries may maintain your library’s serial control records is governed by the Serial Maintenance Libraries attribute of the Library policy.

Name

This field contains the user’s name. This value should be in the form last name, first name initial (e.g., Smith, Joe H.). The label for this field may be changed by the library.

Rank

Ranks are assigned to users on a routing list. When a routing is first created, the Rank field is blank. When a user is selected for the routing, the routing rank default is taken from the user’s profile. If the order of users on a routing list is important, a routing rank must be assigned to each individual user on the list. An individual routing rank value may be modified to change the order of the display of the users on the list. A rank of 1 is the highest for routing, so users with a rank of 1 will get the materials first.

User ID

When creating the user ID, you have two options. You may assign the user ID, or you may allow SirsiDynix Symphony to automatically generate one. Typically, libraries use random numbers associated with barcodes for unique user identification. Other alphanumeric characters, such as a driver’s license number, may also be entered according to the unique numbering or naming scheme established by the library. You may be able to enter a user ID using a User Search gadget.
