Omit Issues By Helper

Some serials will have a publication break during an otherwise predictable publication cycle. The Omit Issues By helper allows publication breaks to be specified without affecting a title’s overall prediction cycle.

When the Omit Issues By helper is selected from within the Publication Cycle gadget, publication breaks are able to be predicted using various omission options. The options that display depend on the publication cycle you selected. Omissions are not available in the Monthly cycle type until a day or week is selected. Omissions are not available in the Annually cycle type because all dates are considered omitted unless specified.

Select one of the types of omissions available, which may include Day of Week, Week of Month, Date, Month, or Holiday.

After selecting one of the omission options and making your omission selections, click OK and a list of your omissions appears in the Omit Issues By pane. You may continue this process until you have selected as many different omission options as necessary. Review your list. If there are any unwanted omission lines, select the line and click Remove to remove selections.

Click OK to accept the omissions and return to the Publication Cycle gadget, or click Cancel to exit the helper without saving your omission selections.

Determine the type of omission you want to make according to the following guidelines.

Omit by Day of Week

On the Day of Week tab, the days of the week appear. Selecting one or more days of the week indicates that these days are exceptions to the standard publication cycle set up for this serial. Select each day of the week that the periodical is not published.

For example, an omit by Day of Week publication statement is structured in the following way.

Published daily except Sundays

Omit by Week of Month

On the Week of Month tab, a generic year is represented with check boxes for each month of the year and weekly check boxes numbered Week 1 through Week 6. Selecting one or more weeks indicates that these weeks are exceptions to the standard publication cycle set up for this serial. You may select any week number in a month, up to 6. WorkFlows does not validate the weeks entered against a current calendar, or whether the weeks selected are compatible with the publication cycle you select.

For example, an omit by Week of Month publication statement is structured in the following way.

Published daily except the 3rd and 4th weeks of December

Omit by Date

On the Date tab, a generic year is represented with check boxes for each month of the year and daily check boxes numbered Day 1 through Day 31. Selecting one or more dates indicates exceptions to the standard publication cycle set up for this serial. You may select any day up to 31. WorkFlows does not validate the days entered against a current calendar, or whether the days selected are compatible with the publication cycle you select. Date values should correspond exactly with a date statement in the issue.

For example, an omit by Week of Month publication statement is structured in the following way.

Published daily except April 15

If the dates on the issue correspond to holidays, particularly those that are not on the same date year after year, such as Easter, Memorial Day, or Thanksgiving, these should be omitted on the Holiday tab to avoid annual modifications to the publication cycle.

Omit by Month

On the Month tab, the months of the year appear. Selecting one or more months indicates that these months are exceptions to the standard publication cycle set up for this serial. Select each month that the periodical is not published.

For example, an omit by Month publication statement is structured in the following way.

Published monthly except December

You cannot omit by month on a weekly publication cycle, but you can select to omit all weeks in a given month.

Omit by Holiday

On the Holiday tab, a list of holidays defined for your library appears. Selecting one or more of these holidays indicates exceptions to the standard publication cycle set up for this serial. WorkFlows does not validate whether the holidays entered are compatible with the publication cycle you select. Select each holiday that the periodical is not published.

The Holiday omission values available for selection are defined in the Holiday Wizard for your library.

A Holiday is defined as a single day of the month or day of the week. If a journal is not published during the week of a holiday, or the holiday spans more than one day, the only predictions that will be skipped are those that fall precisely on the defined day of the holiday.

For example, an omit by Holiday publication statement is structured in the following way.

Published daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years
