Entry ID Wizard

Entry IDs are the building blocks that define the SirsiDynix Symphony fields and their characteristics in the various types of records used in SirsiDynix Symphony. There are two types of Entry IDs: Simple and Synonym List. A simple entry ID identifies an entry that may be used in a specific type of variable length record format. Synonym lists are used to define groups of entries for brief and full displays and for cataloging templates.

Only synonym list type entry IDs can be modified using the Entry ID policy button. Entry ID allows you access to entry IDs that are not directly linked to a Format policy, such as ACQ (acquisitions list) which is used to print catalog information for order lines.

From the List Policies window, you can create, display, modify, copy, or remove synonym list Entry ID policies. Click Close to exit the wizard.

Attributes

Name

This attribute uniquely identifies a synonym list Entry ID. This name is ten characters or less, and may not include spaces or punctuation, except for dash (;) and underscore (_). Additionally, the pipe character (|) may not be used. For entry IDs, the name should be descriptive of its purpose, such as indicating whether the entry will be used for full or brief display, or used in acquisitions lists or selection lists.

Description

This attribute provides more information about the policy and its use by the library. The description may be up to 60 characters in length. Although the Description attribute may contain spaces and punctuation, the pipe character (|) cannot be used.

Purpose

The entry IDs that can be modified using this policy button are catalog-purpose entries for catalog formats and community info-purpose for community information formats.

Note: This attribute cannot be modified.

Type

The entry IDs that can be modified using this policy button are synonym list entries only.

Note: This attribute cannot be modified.

Mode

This attribute indicates whether the simple entry IDs listed in the Entries field should be included or excluded from displaying or from the template.

Entries

This attribute contains a list of simple entry IDs that are included or excluded from displaying or from the record creation template. Use the Policy List gadget to select entry IDs.
