Check Nonfiling Indicators Report

The Check Nonfiling Indicators (Indcheck) report identifies entries that have non-filing indicator errors that prevent the proper indexing of titles. Selected entries do not have the proper indicators to ignore non-filing characters. Titles and other headings beginning with articles such as ”A,” ”An,” or ”The” in English, or other language equivalents, with incorrect indicators are selected. If the indicator number is missing in an entry that includes an article, the entry will also be selected. The entry is printed each time its indicator is recorded incorrectly in a bibliographic record, so some duplicate entries may display.

This report is on the Bibliographic tab of reports.

This report contains the Basic Tab: Reports.

For sites with many foreign language titles, some reported titles may be incorrect. The articles are compared against a single article list without regard to the language. The report does not extract the language from the 008 field of the bibliographic record and use the article list from the matching LANG policy to test the nonfiling indicator.

For example, most French titles beginning with the word ”a” are printed because the report mistakes the French preposition ”a” for the English article ”a.”
