Z3950 Format Wizard

Z3950-purpose formats are used to determine how the data on your or other servers will be interpreted when one of SirsiDynix’s Z39.50 clients is used to execute a search. When you are connected to a Z39.50 site and select a record from a hit list, the Z39.50 server sends back a raw MARC record. The Z3950 Format takes that data and presents it in your Z39.50 client. SirsiDynix’s delivered Z39.50 formats are set up to display standard fields, but if there are special fields sent from the server you are connected to, you may need to update the Z3950 format so they will display.

The AUTHMARC, BIBMARC, SIRSICAT, ZUNIAUTH, and ZUNIMARC Z3950 Format policies are delivered.

Additional Z39.50 information is available from the Z39.50 information link on the SirsiDynix Customer Support Web site (http://clientcare.sirsidynix.com/index.php?goto=Product&pid=14 ).

BIBMARC is used by staff and patrons to access bibliographic databases outside of SirsiDynix Symphony using the e-Library, or the Z39.50 Windows Client. SIRSICAT may be used to connect to SirsiDynix Symphony servers, but the current practice is to always use BIBMARC as the basic Z39.50 format for bibliographic data.

ZUNIAUTH and ZUNIMARC are UNIMARC Z39.50 formats. UNIMARC is an international standard maintained by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

From the List Policies window, you can create, display, modify, copy, or remove the Z3950 Format policies. Click Close to exit the wizard.
