Floating Map Wizard

The Floating Map policy allows the library to determine which items/item types can float. This policy only displays when your system is configured to use the Float Items by Library Group feature. To configure your system to use the Float Items by Library Group feature, contact SirsiDynix Customer Support.

Once you establish which items can float, you can control the libraries to which these items float using the Floating Groups attribute in the Library policies. See the Library Wizard topic for more information.

In order for an item to float (change ownership to the discharging library instead of going In Transit to the owning library) under the Float Items by Library Group configuration, the following two conditions must be met.

The item’s item type must be included in the Item Types list of a Floating Map policy that matches the item’s owning library
The station library that performs the discharges must be included in the Floating Libraries group of the item’s owning library.

For more information about floating collections, see FAQs: Handling Floating Collections.

Since SirsiDynix Symphony looks for “matching” maps from the bottom of the Floating Map list up, the order of the map lines is important. See Policy Operations for Map Policies.

From the List Policies window, you can create, display, modify, copy, or remove the Floating Map policies. Click Close to exit the wizard.

Attributes

The Floating Map wizard displays the following attributes.

Name

This attribute uniquely identifies the policy. This name is ten characters or less, and may not include spaces or punctuation, except for dash (-), underscore (_), and dollar sign ($). Additionally, the pipe character (|) may not be used.

Description

This attribute provides more information about the policy and its use by the library. The description may be up to 60 characters in length. Although the Description attribute may contain spaces and punctuation, the pipe character (|) cannot be used.

Item Library

This attribute identifies the owning or item library. Select a library from the drop-down list. The Library Policy helper is available for you to modify Library policy values, if needed.

Item Types

Click one of the following options.

Include Specified Entries in List – This option includes the selected items in the list.
Exclude Specified Entries – This option excludes the selected items from the list.

If you select the Exclude Specified Entries option, the items listed are excluded from floating. However, all other items not listed will be considered as floating. The exclude is intended to be used as a way to list item types that do not float if more item types float than do not. For example, if at your library all items types float except for DVDs, CDs, and videos, you can add a single line in the floating map to exclude all three item types from floating. The unlisted item types will float.

If you select the Include Specified Entries in List option, the item types listed will float. All unlisted item types will not float. For example, at your library CDs, DVDs, and paperbacks float, but at all the other libraries only paperbacks float. You can add a single line in the floating map for your library to include CD, DVD, and PAPERBACK. The default map line for all libraries will include only PAPERBACK.
