Policy Operations for the Gateway and Gateway Database Policies
You can access the Gateway and Gateway Database policy operations using the buttons in the Gateway window, or by right-clicking a node in the gateway tree and selecting an operation from the shortcut menu.
In general, Gateway policies are not created, but an existing policy is copied and modified to create a new gateway.
Only one user at a time can work with policies. This is a safeguard to prevent users from modifying the same policy at the same time.
SirsiDynix strongly recommends that you do not remove policies, specifically policies that have ever been used by the system. Contact SirsiDynix Customer Support before removing policies.
Cancel
Click Cancel to close the current window.
Close
Click Close to exit the wizard.
Collapse
To quickly close a gateway tree folder, right-click the folder and select Collapse from the shortcut menu. Or, you can click the minus sign next to the folder to close it.
Copy
The Copy operation allows you to copy the current values of an existing Gateway policy into a new policy.
To copy a Gateway policy

In the List Policies window, select a Gateway policy and click Copy. The Duplicate Gateway Policy window displays a Policy Duplicating field and a New Policy Name text box. |

The name of the existing policy appears next to the Policy Duplicating field. Type a new policy name in the New Policy Name box, and click OK. |

Modify the attribute values on the General, WWW Info, Search, and Custom Buttons tabs as needed. |
Create
Click Create to create a new Gateway or Gateway Database policy. When a new policy is created, you will need to provide attribute values; descriptions of these attributes are included in the gateway tab topics.
SirsiDynix strongly encourages you to copy a similar, existing Gateway policy (or Gateway Database policy) and modify it, rather than building an entirely new gateway.
To create a new Gateway policy and associated Gateway Database policies (elements)

In the List Policies window, click Create to display the Create Gateway policy window. This window displays the initial General tab. Type attribute values on this tab. |

Type values for the attributes on the Custom Buttons, Search, and WWW Info tabs. |

Click Save, and the new policy will display after the next halt and run of the workstation server. |

Click the Gateway Database wizard. |
|

Select the new Gateway policy you created. |
|

You will need to create group-type elements, then destination elements for the gateway. To create a group-type element, click Create. Type a Name and Description, and select Group from the list. |

Type values for the attributes on the Basic and Destination tabs, then click Save. |

To create a destination-type element, click Create. Type a Name and Description, and select a Destination Type from the list. Depending on the type you select, different tabs will display. The Basic tab will display for all destination types. The Destination and Search Field tabs will display depending on the element type. Type values for the attributes on these tabs, then click Save. |

Create other destination elements as needed. |

Arrange the destination elements under the appropriate group element in the Gateway tree using the Move and Shift operations. |
Cut and Paste
You can move gateway elements using the Cut and Paste operations. Select a gateway element in the gateway tree, right-click, and select Cut from the shortcut menu. Point to the gateway tree node where you want to paste the element, right-click, and select Paste from the shortcut menu.
Display
The Display operation allows you to display a Gateway policy’s current values.
To display a policy

In the List Policies window, select a Gateway policy, and click Display. |

Click the General, Custom Buttons, Search, and WWW Info tabs and review the displayed information. |

Click Save or Cancel when finished. |
To display the current values for a Gateway Database policy and its associated gateway elements
|

In the List Policies window, select a Gateway Database policy, and click Modify. |
|

A Gateway tree displays the group elements. Click a group element folder, and the Basic, Destination, and WWW Info tabs display information about this group element. |

Double-click a group element folder and the associated group and destination elements display. |

Click a destination element, and the Basic and Destination tabs display information about the element. The WWW Info tab will display if the WWW in Use attribute selected. The Search Fields tab may display depending on the element type. |
Expand
To display all gateway elements in a gateway tree folder, right-click the folder and select Expand from the shortcut menu. Or, you can click the plus sign next to the folder to open it.
Modify
The Modify operation allows you to modify the current values of Gateway policy.
To modify a policy

In the List Policies window, select a Gateway policy, and click Modify. |

Click the General, Custom Buttons, Search, and WWW Info tabs and modify the attribute values as needed. |
To modify the current values of a Gateway Database and its associated gateway elements

In the List Policies window, select a Gateway Database policy and click Modify. |
|

Click a gateway database element folder in the gateway tree, and click Modify. |
|

|
Click the Basic, Destination, Search Fields, and WWW Information tabs and modify the attribute values on these tabs as needed. |
Move
The Move operation allows you to move a gateway element from one group to another.
To move a gateway element

In the gateway tree, select a gateway group element or destination element, and click Move. |
|

The Select a Group Element window opens. Select a group element folder, and click OK. |
Remove
The Remove operation allows you to delete a Gateway policy or Gateway Database policy.
To remove a policy

In the List Policies window, select a policy and click Remove. |
|

The remove dialog box appears, along with the following message. |
Remove policy [policy name]?

Click Yes to remove the policy, or click No to retain the policy. |
SirsiDynix strongly recommends that you do not remove a Gateway policy unless you are absolutely certain that no Environment policies use the selected gateway. Removing a policy that is referenced by any other policy in the system can cause SirsiDynix Symphony to malfunction. Contact SirsiDynix Customer Support before removing policies.
Shift
The Shift operation allows you to rearrange gateway elements, moving them up or down the gateway tree. You can shift group elements and destination elements.
To rearrange gateway elements, do the following.

In a Gateway Database policy, select a gateway element, then click Shift. |
|

A window opens where you can click the Up or Down Arrow to move the gateway up or down the list. |

|
Click Save, and the gateway tree is rearranged accordingly. |
