Control Number Identifier Policy

The Control Number Identifier policy is a Global Configuration policy that is read by the WorkFlows client at startup and stored as a global variable. This policy sets the entry text for the 003 entry (Control Number Identifier) when a proposed authority record is created by the Validate Headings helper and by the MARC Export Utility wizard when extracting the SirsiDynix Symphony catalog key.

The Control Number Identifier policy displays on the Cataloging tab of the Global Configuration wizard. The default value for this policy displays in the Select a Policy window. To modify this value, select Control Number Identifier, and click Modify.

This policy contains one attribute, Control Number Identifier. Any text string up to eight characters long can be typed; however, you should type your library’s organization code found in the MARC Code List for Organizations that is maintained by the Library of Congress. To find the code for your organization, go to the Library of Congress’ MARC Code List for Organizations (http://www.loc.gov/marc/organizations/). Click Save to save your changes.

For more information about proposed authority records, see the Validate Headings Helper topic.
