Access Level Wizard

The Access Level policies are tied to each User Profile in the system via the User Access policy assigned to it. The SirsiDynix Symphony administrator has the ability to control who may search, navigate, and maintain while using the Hyperion DMA but can also assign other SirsiDynix Symphony commands, gateways, utilities and report groups to each login.

In Hyperion DMA, the Access Level policies control the privileges assigned to the patrons, staff, and administrators of the metadata. This policy allows the SirsiDynix Symphony administrator to determine which logins may navigate and search, and which logins may maintain Hyperion’s hierarchy, resource types, and images. These levels are also assigned to each resource type as it is created, which determines who may browse or search resource types with these different levels of access.

Levels of Access

SirsiDynix delivers the following levels of access.

EXTENDED PUBLIC
PUBLIC
STAFF
SUPERVISOR
SYSTEMADMIN

Extended Public

EXTENDED PUBLIC can be assigned to off-site users of the library system and to patrons who are not members of the host library. In the delivered version of Hyperion DMA, these users have no Hyperion privileges. If Navigation and Searching are assigned to users with this access level, they may browse and search for resource types that have the EXTENDED PUBLIC Access Level.

Public

This can be assigned to members and users of the host library. In the delivered version of the Hyperion DMA, these users have the authority to navigate the hierarchy and search the Hyperion DMA database. A login assigned the level of PUBLIC may only see resource types with the level of PUBLIC and EXTENDED PUBLIC.

Staff

This level can be assigned to library staff members. In the delivered version of Hyperion DMA, these users have the authority to navigate the hierarchy, search the database, and create, modify, and delete resources and images from the Hyperion DMA files. If a user’s login is assigned the STAFF Access Level, they may not see or work with resource types at the SUPERVISOR, or SYSTEMADMIN level, but they may see those at the STAFF, PUBLIC, or EXTENDED PUBLIC levels.

Supervisor

This level can be assigned to library staff supervisors. In the delivered version of Hyperion DMA, these users have the authority to navigate the hierarchy, search the database, and create, modify, and delete resources and images from the Hyperion DMA files. These users can also assist in the maintenance of the metadata which includes the creation of resource types, repagination, moving of images from one resource type to another, moving of resource types from one location of the hierarchy to another and the removal of images and/or resource types.

If a user’s login is assigned the SUPERVISOR Access Level they may search and modify resource types at that level, or at the STAFF, PUBLIC and EXTENDED PUBLIC levels. They may not search, browse, modify, or view resource types at the SYSTEMADMIN level.

Systemadmin

This level is assigned to the SirsiDynix Symphony administrator. In the delivered version of Hyperion DMA, these users have the authority to navigate the hierarchy, search the database, and create, modify, and delete resources and images from the Hyperion DMA files.

These users may also assist in the maintenance of the metadata, which includes the creation of resource types, scanning in of images, repagination, moving of images from one resource type to another, moving entire resource types from one place in the hierarchy to another, and remove images and/or resource types. Often, they are responsible for reports, system maintenance, and installing software and hardware upgrades. If a user’s login is assigned the SYSTEMADMIN Access Level, they may search and modify resource types at that level, or at the SUPERVISOR, STAFF, PUBLIC, or EXTENDED PUBLIC levels.
