FAQs: Receiving Items in Transit

How do I take items out of transit?

If you are using the Pending Transits wizard to list items in transit to your library, you can take an item out of transit from the Pending Transits list without leaving the list to use the Receive Transit wizard.

The total number of items in transit and the number received from transit appear.

A dialog box displays with information about where the item should be routed.

The item will appear in the list of items received.

When you receive an item, the values of the Total Number of Items In Transit field and the Number Received field are adjusted accordingly.

If you display a list of items in transit to another library, selecting Receive Item will display the Transitted Item Override. The override displays because you are attempting to take an item out of transit to another library and receive it at your library. If the item is needed at another library, you will be given the option of putting the item back into transit or keeping the item at your library.

What do I do if I see the “Receive Transit: Override Required” message?

The Receive Transit override displays only in multilibrary systems. When you use the Receive Transit wizard, an override displays if you try to take an item out of transit to another library. The following message appears, along with the name of the library to which the item is in transit.

Item is needed at another library ([LIBRARY])

Do one of the following:

Type the override code provided by your supervisor in the Transitted Item Override box, and then click OK.

The item is taken out of transit and kept at your library.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation and keep the item in transit to the other library.

What do I do if I see a “Route/Transit To [LIBRARY]” message?

If you receive an item from transit that is needed at another library, you will see the Route/Transit To [LIBRARY] message. For example, an item was in transit to your library to satisfy a hold. Before the item reached your library, the user canceled the hold. When you receive the item from transit, SirsiDynix Symphony finds that the hold has been canceled, and that the item should be returned to its owning library, or sent to another library to satisfy the next hold.

When you see the Route/Transit To [LIBRARY] message, do one of the following:

Click Put Item in Transit to put the item back in transit.
Click Close to keep the item at your library.

What do I do if I see a “This item is not in transit” message?

If you try to receive an item that is not in transit, the following message displays.

This item is not in transit

Click OK to close the message. A routing message displays and tells you where the item should be shelved. Click OK to close the routing message.

How do I view a list of received items?

When you receive an item, the total number of items in transit and the number received from transit appear. In the List of Items Received, the item’s title, item ID, and routing information display for each received item. Click the glossary links to display more detailed information about the item.

What happens if the item received from transit is part of a floating collection?

Items that are part of a floating collection can be put in transit to your library. For example, such an item can be sent to your library to fill a hold for a user at your library or for a user who requested to pick up the item at your library. When you receive an item from a floating collection, you will be directed to take action, such as routing it to the Holds shelf.

If the item from a floating collection was put in transit to your library to fill a hold, and the hold was removed before it reached your library, you will be directed to shelve the item in your library, unless it is needed at another library for a hold, booking, or reserve. The item’s owning library changes to the receiving library. For more information about items in floating collections, go to FAQs: Handling Floating Collections.

How do I receive items that are part of a circulation set?

You can receive circulation sets in transit using the Receive In Transit Items wizard by typing or scanning the set ID on the Receive Set tab. This tab will display all received circulation set items.
