Global Item Modification Helper

Use the Global Item Modification helper to make global changes to item information after creating items in the Add Ordered Items to Catalog wizard. Libraries that have large collections and don’t create holding codes for all location/item type possibilities, might use this helper to change the location and other item features globally. Also, cataloging staff may change their minds about the item characteristics assigned after the items are added to the catalog. This helper facilitates a global change of the item values.

The following item characteristics can be modified globally using this helper.

Item Type
Home Location
Item Category 1
Item Category 2
Item Category 3
Item Category 4
Item Category 5
Item Library
Price
Shadowed
Permanent
Circulate

Behavior properties control which characteristics can be edited globally.

When modifying the library, the Global Item Modification wizard performs transfer item commands to move items from one library to another. For information about how transferring items affects attached charges and holds, go to FAQs: Transferring Titles, Call Numbers, or Copies.

To use this helper

When you select the check box next to the item you want to modify, the item record changes to bold and italic. This convention allows you to easily identify which item records will be modified.

Additionally, when you select an item to modify, the associated title and call number check boxes will be automatically selected and the background of the check box will appear in gray. This convention allows you to easily identify the title/call number associated with the item record to be modified.
