Notes for the WorkFlows Java Client Installation and Update for Macintosh Systems

Before you begin to install or update to the SirsiDynix Symphony 3.4 WorkFlows Java client on a Macintosh system, make sure the following requirements specific to the Macintosh system are met.

For version 3.4, Macintosh clients require Java 1.6—which also requires a 64 bit machine, with Dual Core.

Note: Macintosh workstations support Java 1.6 only on 64 Bit, Dual Core, running Leopard OSX 10.5, Update 2 or higher. For Macs that do not meet these requirements, users can run the SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2.1 WorkFlows Java client, which requires Java 1.5 rather than Java 1.6, against the SirsiDynix Symphony 3.3. server. Please go to the client/server specifications for SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2.1 for details on Mac hardware specifications. While SirsiDynix has tested the Mac 3.2.1 WorkFlows Java Client against SirsiDynix Symphony 3.3, SirsiDynix strongly recommends that sites using Macs that upgrade to Symphony 3.3 make plans to upgrade to the 3.3 version of the Workflows Java client in order to take advantage of new capabilities and corrections and to ensure optimal support.

Run OS X and follow the recommendations to support multiple, simultaneous applications.
WorkFlows Java client users must have full rights (read, write, and execute) and access to the \<home>\library\preferences directory, where <home> is each user’s home directory. All users who will use the Workflows Java client must be able to write to the \library\preferences\Workflows folder on their systems.
WorkFlows Java client users must have full rights and access to the \<home>\applications directory. During the installation or update, a file named workflows.app is saved to this directory.
WorkFlows Java client users must have full rights and access to the \<hard drive>\receipts directory. During the installation or update, a file named WorkFlowsInstall.pkg is saved to this directory.
