FAQs: WorkFlows Files Downloaded When You Log In

What files are downloaded when WorkFlows logs in, and under what circumstances are these files downloaded?

Depending on how WorkFlows is deployed and whether or not a user’s instance of WorkFlows needs updating, files are downloaded to the user’s workstation in the following manner.

If the instance of WorkFlows is run using the -w program argument set, then it is likely a network share system.

Update Client
The user will be asked if he wants to update the client if the client is not set for a network share system and the deployment of the client is not web based.
WorkFlows compares the value in the stamp file in the /Unicorn/Clients directory versus the stamp file in the WorkFlows client \Property subdirectory to see if an update is needed.
If the preceding scenarios are true, the user will get an option to update the staff client.
Update Character Translation Table
Updating the character translation table does not depend on network share status or web based deployment status.
The message “Checking and downloading character translation table” will display, and WorkFlows will check whether or not the station type is one that has a character translation table associated with it.
If the station type is associated with a character translation table, WorkFlows will compare values in the Charsets stamp file to the corresponding one in the client \Property directory for the given station name.
Update Labels and Update Messages
These will not update on a system in which WorkFlows indicates that the files are on a network share.
The stamp file in the /Language directory on the server and the stamp file in the WorkFlows \Property directory will be compared to see if the files need to be updated. However, in the process of checking, the messages “Downloading labels file” and “Downloading messages file” will appear, regardless of whether or not the files are actually downloaded.
Update Toolbar File
The user will be asked if he wants to update WorkFlows if the client is not set for a network share system and the deployment of the client is not web-based. The message for this is “Update toolbar file.”
While the “update” message is displaying, a stamp file in the WorkFlows local \Toolbar directory is checked against the stamp file in the server /Unicorn/Clients/Toolbar/Workflows directory.

For more information, see FAQs: Toolbar Management.

Update Wizards
These will not update on a system in which the client indicates that the files are on a network share or on a web-based deployment.
These update based on a stamp file comparison on the client workstation machine and the server.
Update Miscellaneous Files
These will update regardless of the existence of a network share and regardless of a web-based deployment.
These files update based on a stamp file comparison on the client workstation and the server.
