Basic Info Tab: Users

The Basic Info tab contains the following information about a user.

The following fields are defined for the Basic Info tab for users.

First Name

This field contains the user’s first name, up to 20 characters in length.

Preferred Name

This field contains the user’s preferred name or nickname, up to 20 characters in length. If the Use Preferred Name check box is selected, this name will display instead of the user’s first name.

Use Preferred Name

If you select the Use Preferred Name check box, the user’s preferred name will display in the WorkFlows and e-Library clients instead of the user’s first name. The user’s preferred name will also print in reports.

Middle Name

This field contains the user’s middle name, up to 20 characters in length. Typically, an initial is used.

Last Name

This field contains the user’s last name, up to 60 characters in length. In the Copy User wizard, only the Last Name field is copied over to the new user record.

Suffix

This field contains the name suffix, such as Jr., Sr., and III, up to 10 characters in length.

Title

This field contains the user’s title such as “Dr.”

User ID

When creating the user ID, you can assign the user ID or allow SirsiDynix Symphony to generate one automatically. Typically, libraries use random numbers associated with barcodes for unique user identification. Other alphanumeric characters, such as a driver’s license number, may also be entered according to the unique numbering or naming scheme established by the library.

Alt ID

The Alt ID (alternative ID) field is an optional alphanumeric-character field which can be used for a unique number or name different from the User ID. If the library must use random barcodes as user IDs, then the alternate ID may be an individually significant number or name like a Social Security number, student ID number, or driver’s license number.

Group ID

The group ID is an optional, free-text field that can be used to link all users belonging to a named group such as a family or department. The ability to look up users by group ID is configurable. At a workstation, a list of users with the same group ID can be displayed.

Library

Library field values are defined in the Library policies set up by your SirsiDynix Symphony System Administrator. At the basic level, this field determines the library where an item is held and where the user is registered in a multilibrary setting.

Department

This field is an optional, free-text statistical category that the library decides how to use. The screen label may be named something other than ”department” and may be configured not to display.

Birth Date

This field is an optional, numeric statistical category that contains the user’s entire birth date. If a birth date is entered in this field, the year must contain four digits. Since the field is optional, it may be configured to not display.

Profile Name

This field contains a User Profile policy name. The User Profile policy determines the user’s privileges; an example of a User Profile policy name is STUDENT. This field also determines the user’s loan period and fine rate. When creating a user, this field is required.

Allow Routing

This field allows serials to be routed to a user. If this field is not selected, routings cannot be created for the user.
