Propose Authority

The Propose option in the Validate Headings helper is used to create a new record with reasonable values in the fixed field and 001, 005, 040, 1XX, and 670 entries (plus the 022 and 642-646 entries for a series heading) based on the information in the bibliographic record being validated, and displays the Description tab for review.

If the Validate Headings helper behavior property Select Authority Format Automatically is not selected, required authority control information will need to be enter before proceeding. The newly proposed authority can then be edited as necessary before being added to the authority database.

The following values are automatically generated.

The Leader and Fixed Field include general defaults as specified in the Standard for Machine-Proposed Authority Records.
The Authority ID is SirsiDynix Symphony generated in the 001 entry of the proposed authority record.
The text for the 003 entry (Control Number Identifier) is defined using the Global Configuration policy, Configure Control Number Identifier.
The NUC symbol from the station library policy of the request is used to generate the 040 entry in the proposed authority record. In order for the Propose Authority feature to insert your library’s NUC symbol, the NUC Symbol field must be defined in the Library policy of the user access proposing the authority. The NUC must also be defined in the Library policy to properly generate the series fields 642, 644-646.
The current date and time stamp is provided in the 005 entry of the proposed authority record. The 1XX field is automatically generated from the heading being verified.
The 670 field is generated using a combination of information in the 245 and 260 fields.

The generated authority format, authorization level, and source values can also be supplied based on the Validate Headings helper properties.
