User Search Helper Properties

The User Search helper allows the following properties to be set.

Changes you make to this helper’s properties apply globally whenever this helper is used.

Defaults

Under Identify User Default:

Type – Select one of the following default search types you want to use when starting the helper.
Keyword – Locates and displays user records that contain the terms you entered. Boolean operators, field qualifiers, and other search strategies can be used to narrow or expand your search.
Browse – Produces a list in the alphabetic vicinity of the term you entered.
Browse User Group – Locates and displays an alphabetic list of user groups. Selecting a user group displays a list of the names and user IDs of the members in the group.
Search Index – Select the default search index you want to identify a user. The search options that display are defined in your library’s policies. For example, you can search using the following indexes.
Name – Displays the user’s name.
User ID – Displays the user ID. When creating the user ID, you can assign the user ID or allow SirsiDynix Symphony to generate one automatically. Typically, libraries use random numbers associated with barcodes for unique user identification. Other alphanumeric characters such as a driver’s license number can also be entered according to the unique numbering or naming scheme established by the library. You can also enter a user ID using the Browse User gadget. The User ID field is limited to a maximum of 20 alphanumeric characters.
Alt ID – Displays the Alt ID (alternative ID). This field is an optional alphanumeric-character field that can be used for a unique number or name different from the User ID. If the library must use random barcodes as user IDs, then the alternate ID can be an individually significant number or name such as a Social Security number, student ID number, or driver’s license number. The Alt ID field is limited to a maximum of 20 alphanumeric characters.
Group ID – Displays a list of users with the same group ID. This field is an optional, free-text field that can be used to link all users belonging to a named group such as a family or a department. The ability to look up users by group ID is configurable.
Library – To limit user searches to a specific library, select a library in the Library list to use as the default. The libraries displayed in this list are specified in your library’s policies. The All Libraries option allows all libraries to be searched.
Sort By – This field lists options you can sort by such as Address, Email, Phone number and so forth. This sort applies to keyword searching only. The options displayed are listed in your library policies.
