FAQs: Using the Intermec 2410 Batch Handheld Terminal

How do I set up the scanner before first use?

Before you can use the 2410 to inventory items or track in-house usage, you must load an application program on the scanner. This program was designed and written by SirsiDynix. If you purchased the scanner from SirsiDynix, this program and all files are already installed. If you purchased the scanner from another vendor, you will need to install the software and pay a license fee. Contact SirsiDynix Client Sales for more information about the license fee.

Allow the 2410 to fully charge before the first use. To to this, place the scanner in its docking cradle and plug in the Intermec AC power supply on the charging base to an AC power source. While charging, you will see a yellow charge light on the charging base. Once charging is complete, the second indicator on the charging base will turn green.

How do I install the 2410 scanner software if I did not purchase the scanner from SirsiDynix?

Scanners purchased from SirsiDynix come with the software already loaded. If you did not purchase the scanner from SirsiDynix, follow these steps to install the software on the scanner.

Tip: Be sure that the 2410 download cable is connected to both the docking cradle and the appropriate COM port on the back of the workstation running WorkFlows. The default is COM1, but you may select COM2, COM3, or COM4 on the client workstation as long as you select the corresponding COM port during COM port setup.

How do I set the time and date on the scanner?

Always confirm that the date and time are correct on your scanner before beginning an inventory. If the date and time are incorrect on the scanner, the inventory and in-house use transactions in SirsiDynix Symphony will also be incorrect.

How do I use the scanner to collect data?

How many barcodes can I scan on a single charge?

The Intermec 2410 has the capacity to scan approximately 3000 barcodes. The battery provides about 4-5 hours of operation before recharging. The battery pack is a 3.8 volt nickel metal hydride battery that does not reach its full potential/capacity until 8 to 12 charge/discharge cycles. Do not be concerned if less than two hours of use is completed after the first charge/discharge cycle.

How do I transfer barcode files from the scanner to a workstation?

If you do not delete the scanner file, barcodes from later inventories will be appended to the one being uploaded, so that you will not be able to scan as many transactions, and the previous transactions will be processed in duplicate.

Why can’t I get scanner data to load on my WindowsNT/Windows98 workstation?

How is scanner data added to the SirsiDynix Symphony database?

After you transfer the data in the scanner to the server, add the data to the SirsiDynix Symphony database. The data from the scanner is loaded into SirsiDynix Symphony with the Load Scanner Transactions report for collection inventories. For information about this report and the complete inventory process, see FAQs: Creating an Inventory.
