Holdings Lookup Tab for Entries

The following three attributes are only used if an entry in a Z39.50-purpose Format policy is used to perform a search on a holdings server or servers.

This tab displays the following attributes.

Rank for Holding Lookup

This attribute is used to specify a rank from 1-999 for this entry when it is used in searching a holdings database.

For example, a user is performing a search on a Z39.50 server. The user displays a record of interest, then initiates a search of the holdings server to see if his library owns this title. SirsiDynix Symphony examines the record on the Z39.50 server and looks for entries that contain a holdings lookup rank. The entry with the lowest holdings lookup rank will be searched on the holdings server. For instance, the 001 field (OCLC number) might have a holdings lookup rank of one. If no match is found, the entry with the next lowest rank will be searched, and this pattern will continue until either a match is found on the holdings server or there are no remaining entries with a holdings lookup rank, in which case SirsiDynix Symphony will notify the user that there were no matching records found on the holdings server.

Holding Screen Name

This attribute is used for entries in Z39.50-purpose formats.

Holding Subfields

When an entry is searched on a holdings server, either the entire entry may be searched or only specified subfields from the entry may be included as part of the search string. List the subfields to include in the search string.

For example, the 020 (ISBN) entry is used in searching a holdings server. Since 020 subfield z is used to record obsolete ISBN numbers, it may be misleading to include |z in a holdings server search. The 020 entry, therefore, should include only |a in its Holdings Subfields attribute.
