The Media Desk policy describes days and times that media desk personnel are available to prepare and process booked items. Specific hours may be typed for each day of the week. Dates on which the media desk is closed are supplied from the appropriate Library policy, or may be specified by the SirsiDynix Symphony administrator. The Media Desk policy is used when a booking timeline is created.
From the List Policies window, you can create, display, modify, copy, or remove the Media Desk policies. Click Close to exit the wizard.
Attributes
The Media Desk wizard displays the following attributes.
• | Name |
• | Description |
• | Desk Hours |
• | Library |
• | Closed Dates |
The Name attribute uniquely identifies the Media Desk. This name is ten characters or less, and may not include spaces or punctuation, except for dash (-), underscore (_), and dollar sign ($). Additionally, the pipe character (|) may not be used. The name should be descriptive, since policy names are used in reports and in the workstation.
This attribute provides more information about the policy and its use by the library. The description may be up to 60 characters in length. Although the Description attribute may contain spaces and punctuation, the pipe character (|) cannot be used. The description might include information about situations in which this Media Desk would be used.
The Desk Open Period attribute defines a range of hours for selected days of the week during which the media desk is open. There is no need to indicate which days the media desk is closed. The range of hours refers to times during which library staff are available to prepare and process booked items. Use the Desk Hours gadget to establish this range of hours.
Important: It is required that you create open and closed times for each day the media desk is open. If you group days together, such as Monday 6:00 AM until Friday 6:00 PM, and a closed date falls within this range, SirsiDynix Symphony may not be able to create bookings that span the closed date. If you wish to indicate that the media desk is open for 24 hours, it is recommended that you define an open time of 12:00 AM and a closed time of 11:59 PM each day.
The following example shows a media desk that is open 24 hours Monday through Thursday and closes at 6:00 PM on Friday,.
Monday |
12:00 AM – 11:59 PM |
Tuesday |
12:00 AM – 11:59 PM |
Wednesday |
12:00 AM – 11:59 PM |
Thursday |
12:00 AM – 11:59 PM |
Friday |
12:00 AM – 6:00 PM |
The Library attribute refers to an established Library policy that should be used for defining specific dates on which the media desk will be closed. Select a library from the list. If the Dates Closed vary from those of any library in the system, the Library attribute should be left blank.
Specific dates on which media desk staff will be unavailable are supplied from the Dates Closed attribute of the Library policy referred to in the Library attribute. If the value NONE was selected in the Library attribute, a list of dates may be selected to indicate days on which the media desk will be closed. When calculating booking time lines, these dates will be skipped. Use the Closed Dates gadget to specify these dates.
