Trap Holds Wizard

In a multilibrary setting, items needed to satisfy holds at one site may be on the shelf at one or more sites. The Trap Holds wizard is used to make holds selected with the List Onshelf Items With Holds report available for the holds.

Before You Begin

Before using this wizard, you must complete the following tasks.

This report identifies materials with holds that are on the shelf and selects a specific library’s copy to be designated for a specific hold.

Trapping Holds

Once you have completed the tasks described in Before You Begin, you can trap holds in your library.

To trap holds

The item is trapped to fill a hold, and is added to the Items with Trapped Holds list.

Review the title, user, routing, and destination library information using the glossary links.

If you try to trap an item that is in transit for a hold at a different library, an Item in Transit window pops up. If you want to release the item from transit, you will be required to enter an override. Once you have done that, the window will display these options:

Choose Put item in transit to put the item back in transit.
Choose Make hold available to make the item available for pickup.
Choose Close to leave the item removed from the hold.

You can trap holds for circulation sets using this wizard. When you scan a set ID, if there is a hold for the set, the wizard displays a list of the items in the set. You can trap individual items or select all items to fill the hold. For more information, see FAQs: Circulating Items in Groups.
