User Search Fields

These fields are used in the various wizards.

Name

This field contains the user's name. This value, by default, is in the format lastname, firstname (or preferred name) initial (for example Smith, Joe H.).

User ID

When creating the user record, you can assign a user ID or allow SirsiDynix Symphony to generate one automatically. Typically, libraries use random numbers associated with barcodes for unique user identification. Other alphanumeric characters such as a driver’s license number can also be entered according to the unique numbering or naming scheme established by the library. The User ID field is limited to a maximum of 20 alphanumeric characters.

Note: If your library uses the barcode validation feature, you will see a message if you type or scan a barcode with an invalid barcode format in the User ID field.

Important: User IDs cannot contain these characters: ! %* + / : ; @ \ _ &# [ | ] ~ `

Alt ID

The Alt ID (alternative ID) field is an optional alphanumeric-character field that can be used for a unique number or name different from the User ID. If the library must use random barcodes as user IDs, then the alternate ID can be an individually significant number or name such as a Social Security number, student ID number, or driver’s license number. The Alt ID field is limited to a maximum of 20 alphanumeric characters.

Important: Alt IDs cannot contain these characters: ! %* + / : ; @ \ _ &# [ | ] ~ `

For Requests, if the Request Type policy defines user identification as necessary to process the request, and the library has specified that a user should enter his/her alternative user ID, then this field displays. If it displays, it can either be an optional or required field. This field can contain up to 20 characters of the ID of the user for whom the request is being placed, or the operator’s user ID.

Group ID

The group ID is an optional, free-text field that can be used to link all users belonging to a named group such as a family or department. The ability to look up users by group ID is configurable. At the workstation, a list of users with the same group ID can be displayed.

Note: The Group ID should not be confused with the Group Name that is part of the Family Card feature, even they are both used to group a list of related users.

Current

The Current option displays the last user record displayed, modified, or added. The Current option displays only if a record of the type you are looking up has been displayed, modified, or added during your workstation session.
