Basic Info Tab: Users

The Basic Info tab contains the following information about a user.

First Name

This field contains the user’s first name, up to 25 characters in length.

Preferred Name

This field contains the user’s preferred name or nick name, up to 25 characters in length. If the Use Preferred Name check box is selected, the preferred name will display instead of the user’s first name in the WorkFlows and e-Library clients. The user’s preferred name will also print in reports.

Use Preferred Name

If you select the Use Preferred Name check box, the user’s preferred name will display in the WorkFlows and e-Library clients instead of the user’s first name. The user’s preferred name will also print in reports.

Middle Name

This field contains the user’s middle name, up to 25 characters in length. Typically, an initial is used.

Last Name

This field contains the user’s last name, up to 60 characters in length.

Suffix

This field contains the name suffix, such as Jr., Sr., and III, up to 15 characters in length.

Title

This field contains the user’s title, such as Dr.

User ID

When creating the user ID, you have two options: you can assign the user ID or allow SirsiDynix Symphony to generate one automatically. To auto-generate a user ID, type or select AUTO in the User ID box. Typically, libraries use random numbers associated with barcodes for unique user identification. Other alphanumeric characters, such as a driver’s license number, can also be entered according to the unique numbering or naming scheme established by the library. The User ID field is limited to a maximum of 20 alphanumeric characters.

Important: User IDs cannot contain these characters: ! %* + / : ; @ \ _ &# [ | ] ~ `

Note: If the wizard properties are set to not auto-generate a user ID, in some circulation wizards, you can still auto-generate an ID by typing AUTO in the User ID box. This behavior is available in these wizards: Copy User, Modify User, New User Registration, and User Lost Card.

Alt ID

The Alt ID (alternative ID) field is an optional alphanumeric-character field that can be used for a unique number or name different from the User ID. If the library uses random barcodes as user IDs, the alternate ID can be an individually significant number (or name) like a Social Security number, student ID number, or driver’s license number. The Alt ID field is limited to a maximum of 20 alphanumeric characters.

Important: Alt IDs cannot contain these characters: ! %* + / : ; @ \ _ &# [ | ] ~ `

Allow Routing

This field allows serials to be routed to a user. If this field is not selected, routings cannot be created for the user.

Group ID

The group ID is an optional, free-text field that can be used to link all users belonging to a named group such as a family or department. The ability to look up users by group ID is configurable. At a workstation, you can display a list of users with the same group ID.

Library

Library field values are defined in the Library policies set up by your SirsiDynix Symphony system administrator. At the basic level, this field determines the library where an item is held and where the user is registered in a multilibrary setting.

Profile Name

This field contains a User Profile policy name. The User Profile policy determines the user’s privileges. An example of a User Profile policy is STUDENT. This field also determines the user’s loan period and fine rate. When creating a user, this field is required.

Charge History Rule

This field determines how charge history is kept. This field allows libraries to either use or override the Save Charge History setting in circulation rules on an individual basis. The Charge History Rule field can be set to one of the following values.

NOHISTORY overrides the Save Charge History setting in the circulation rule, and does not keep history records for this user. This value is the default setting.
CIRCRULE creates charge history records for this user based on the circulation rule’s Save Charge History setting. If the Save Charge History check box is selected, charge history will be saved for this user when the user checks out an item that uses the circulation rule. If the check box is cleared, charge history will not be saved for the user when the user checks out an item that uses the circulation rule.
ALLCHARGES overrides the Save Charge History setting in the circulation rule and creates charge history records for every checkout by this user.
