Add Brief Title Wizard

The Add Brief Title wizard is used when you need to circulate an item that has not been fully cataloged, or does not need to be fully cataloged. This wizard creates a brief record (brief title, call number, or item to the catalog) to circulate the item. When discharged, the item can be routed to cataloging so that the full record can replace the brief record, if a full record is needed.

To add a brief title

In the Items group, click the Add Brief Title wizard.

Under Title Info, enter the personal author and title (Title is a required field).

Under Call Number and Copy Info, change New Call Number, and select Class Scheme, Library, Item Type, Home Location, Item ID and Item Category fields as needed.

Click Add Brief Title.

After the brief title record is added to the catalog, click one of the following options:

Add Another Title to add another brief title.

Make More Changes to modify the brief title information

•

Close to exit the wizard

Important Considerations When Using this Wizard

Default values for the title fields and the item values can be set through this wizard’s properties. If you set the Home Location of the brief title to a processing location, such as CATALOGING, when this item is discharged from the patron, it will be routed to this location for further processing.

When the wizard starts, it compares all default properties to the policies. If any property settings are invalid, the wizard displays a dialog box indicating which setting is invalid. When you click OK to close the dialog box, the wizard opens the Set Properties window and places the insertion point on the invalid setting.

When the wizard starts, it checks to see if the system is configured for a multilibrary system. If the system is configured for a single library system, the wizard ignores the default Library property and uses the specified station library.

If you do not supply a call number or item ID, the call number and item ID are automatically generated by SirsiDynix Symphony.

•

Users can only create call numbers and items for libraries in their Call Number Maintenance and Item Maintenance library groups.
