Vendor Search

To search vendors

Select the index you want to search from the list.

When searching in wizards that permit modification of vendors, only acquisitions maintenance libraries are available for selection. When searching in wizards that simply display information, only acquisitions display libraries are available for selection.

If no text is typed when searching or browsing, and no search options are used, all vendors in the specified fiscal cycle for the specified library are retrieved.

In the vendor search results, vendors are listed in tables. All result lists include the Vendor ID, Vendor Name, and Customer Number. Click the Forward and Backward options to view all vendors in the list.

If a list is retrieved and an individual vendor and cycle must be identified for the wizard action, you may select it and select the wizard action, search another vendor, or exit the wizard.

If a list is retrieved and multiple vendors or cycles may be identified for the wizard action, you may choose to perform the wizard function on all or selected vendors in the list. Select the Select All check box, and the wizard action is performed on all listed vendors. For selected vendors, clear the Select All check box and select the check boxes next to individual vendors receiving the wizard function. The options available depend on the wizard you are using.

Acquisitions Display Libraries settings in the Library policies determine which libraries’ vendor records you can search. See FAQs: Understanding Display and Maintenance Libraries for more information.

Search Types

Search

The Search option locates and displays vendor records that contain the terms you typed in the search index you selected. In a search, implied truncation is used—SirsiDynix Symphony assumes any characters typed in the Search For field may match more than one master vendor record. When searching by Vendor ID, type a few letters, such as BAK, and vendors whose ID begins with Bak appear. If a single match is found, the vendor information appears; if more than one vendor matches the ID entered, then the client displays a list of vendors. Although not necessary, you can use explicit truncation by typing a few characters and a dollar sign. When searching by Vendor ID, of you type BAK$, vendors whose ID begins with Bak will appear. These same techniques may be used when searching by Vendor Name or Customer Number.

Browse

The Browse option produces a list in the alphabetic vicinity of the term you typed from the browse index you selected, which may then be browsed forward or backward. When browsing, SirsiDynix Symphony uses implied truncation. When browsing by Vendor Name, type the first characters of a vendor name, and the client will display a list of vendors starting with those letters (or numbers). For example, typing EBS will start your browse at Ebsco, followed by Ebsco-RefBook, then Ebsco-Serial, and so on. This same technique may be used when browsing by Vendor ID or Customer Number. When browsing by numbers, the browse will not be in a strict numeric order. For instance, the number 1100 will appear before the number 123.

Exact

The Exact option displays a single record of the search index you selected. The Exact search is best for specific number or code searches. If the exact ID is not in the database, a message displays that the information was not found. For example, when searching by Vendor ID, if you search EBSCO-1, the vendor with that exact vendor ID will appear; EBSCO-2 will not appear.

Current

This search option displays the record that was most recently displayed or modified. The record that is displayed depends on the specific function of the wizard.

The Current option displays only if a record of the type you are searching has been displayed or modified during your workstation session.
