Fund Search

To search funds

Select the index you want to search from the list.

If no text is typed when searching or browsing, and no search options are used, all funds in the specified fiscal cycle for the specified library are retrieved.

In the fund search results, funds are listed in tables. All result lists include the Fund ID and Fund Name. The number of Cycles additionally displays for fund wizards except the Adjust Fund Budget wizard which displays the previous and projected budget, and the Rollover Fund wizard which displays the allocated budget for the current fund. Click the Forward or Backward options to view all funds in the list.

If a list is retrieved and an individual fund and cycle must be identified for the wizard action, you may select it and select the wizard action, search another fund, or exit the wizard.

If a list is retrieved and multiple funds or cycles may be identified for the wizard action, you may choose to perform the wizard function on all or selected funds in the list. Select the Select All check box, and the wizard action is performed on all listed funds. For selected funds, clear the Select All check box and select the check boxes next to individual funds receiving the wizard function. The options available depend on the wizard you are using.

Acquisitions Display Libraries settings in the Library policies determine which libraries’ fund records you can search. See FAQs: Understanding Display and Maintenance Libraries for more information.

The fund search appears as a gadget in invoice wizards.

Search Types

Search

The Search option locates and displays fund records that contain the terms you typed in the search index you selected. In a search, implied truncation is used—SirsiDynix Symphony assumes any characters typed in the Search For field may match more than one master fund record. When searching by Fund ID, type a few letters, such as BOOK, and funds whose ID begins with BOOK appear. If a single match is found, the fund information appears; if more than one fund matches the ID entered, then the client displays a list of funds. Although not necessary, you can use explicit truncation by typing a few characters and a dollar sign. When searching by Fund ID, of you type BOOK$, funds whose ID begins with BOOK will appear. These same techniques may be used when searching by Fund Name or Account Number.

Browse

The Browse option produces a list in the alphabetic vicinity of the term you typed from the browse index you selected, which may then be browsed forward or backward. When browsing, SirsiDynix Symphony uses implied truncation. When browsing by Fund Name, type the first characters of a fund name, and the client will display a list of funds starting with those letters (or numbers). For example, typing Sci will start your browse at Science Book Fund, followed by Science Periodical Fund, then Science Multimedia Fund, and so on. This same technique may be used when browsing by Fund ID or Account Number. When browsing by numbers, the browse will not be in a strict numeric order. For instance, the number 1100 will appear before the number 123.

Exact

The Exact option displays a single record of the search index you selected. The Exact lookup is best for specific number or code searches. If the exact ID is not in the database, a message displays that the information was not found. For example, when searching by Fund ID, if you search SCI-BK-2003, the fund with that exact fund ID will appear; SCI-BK-2002 will not appear.

Current

This search option displays the record that was most recently displayed or modified. The record that is displayed depends on the specific function of the wizard.

The Current option displays only if a record of the type you are searching has been displayed or modified during your workstation session.

Fund Level

The Fund Level option is available for some fund wizards. When you click the Fund Level option, the Fund Level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 fields appear. One of more of these levels can be used to qualify the search. Because the fund levels are policy-controlled, neither implicit nor explicit truncation is used when searching by fund levels. Select policy values from the lists and click Search. If you clear the Fund Level fields, then all master fund records for the specified fiscal cycle and acquisitions library will be listed.
